2020 is fast approaching, there are now only days remaining of 2019.
It’s currently that time between Christmas and New Year. You have risen to the joyful challenge that was Christmas, and are now enjoying the quiet aftermath.
This means you currently have a bit more time to think and reflect on the year that was.
You catch yourself thinking about your New Year’s resolutions for 2020. You say to yourself; I want to lose weight and get fit, quit smoking, reduce alcohol and eat healthier.
BUT you realise you wanted this for yourself last year, and think: “I can’t believe it’s a year since I didn’t become a better person!” (“GASP!”)
BUT please take a deep breath.
Don’t feel bad - you’re not alone.
A study found, that only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s resolutions.
Keeping a New Year’s resolution is actually hard!
So, we are here to help you out.
We have put a bit of thought into why you may not have achieved what you wanted to last year.
We believe it is because although you wanted these great things for yourself, you may not have really believed in yourself in actually achieving these things at the time, OR even thought that you deserved it.

Below we state four ways that you can be more confident in 2020.
We want you to look back to this time next year and see the desired changes you wanted to make, and the better person you wanted to be.
Be nice to yourself and respect yourself by giving yourself more positive self-talk. It is much easier to be negative about ourselves in regards to how we look, or punish ourselves for making a mistake. Remind yourself that you are an imperfect human, not born to be perfect. When you start thinking negative thoughts about yourself, stop them in their tracks quickly! Each of us may have different methods to how we might do this, but one suggestion is to say to yourself instead, “that thought is not right, I’m great and capable of anything”.
Believe in yourself
Part of the reason you may never have achieved what you wanted to before, is because you didn’t actually believe that you could do it. When doubt tries to creep in, telling you that you can’t do something, stop those thoughts immediately. Dig deep and tell yourself that you CAN and WILL do what you set out to do. You are much stronger than you know. If everything becomes overwhelming, let yourself take a break. Pace yourself. You’re in this for the long haul!
Use body language to your advantage
Body language has been proven to increase confidence and self-esteem. Research suggests that it takes just two minutes to change your thoughts for the better by moving your body in a certain way. Sitting confidently with an open stance, chin slightly raised, shoulders back and steady eye-contact will help you be more confident. A very simply strategy you can starting implementing even now!
Make yourself a priority
Often we may feel that external events are controlling our lives. But make sure you take time-out during the year for yourself, and give yourself some self-care. When we feel run-down, tired and stressed it is pretty hard to think clearly and manage more difficult situations we may face with confidence. Look after yourself.
